Character History: Grace Mosley grew up a perfectly normal girl, and remained that way for the majority of her life. She was socially active, had plenty of friends, loads of extracurricular activities, all the things that you expect from a regular teenage girl. Her normalcy carried over into college as well. In high school, Grace had been an active participant on the Track and Field team, and while she enjoyed the hurdle races of all distances, her true forte was the high jump, which brought her a small amount of local fame for being a district champion in the event, as well as medalling in the state competitions her junior and senior years. Competition at collegiate level was much more of a challenge, but she welcomed that, because lets face it, competition is good for the soul. And it also made for a good break from her studies, even though they weren't terribly unpleasant (except for the math ones, which had never been her strong suit.)
For a little extra spending money, Grace volunteered to participate in a drug study, which practically promised to not be at all harmful, and if successful would be a cure for the common cold, or flu. In truth, the medication itself didn't harm her in any way that she could tell, she didn't feel anymore ill than usual, and assumed she was one of the subjects given the placebo instead of the drug they were devolping. In truth, she was one of the ones with the actual drug, and there were no downsides to it, until another factor was introduced.
That factor came in a powerful force of nature. The weather had been extremely odd for the time of year, and while it was unpleasant outside, Grace wasn't going to forgo her evening run. She had, after all, run in bad weather before. The bolt of lightning came seemingly out of nowhere, she hadn't thought anything of the rumblings in the clouds, and Grace became one of the very few to have been struck by lightning, and one of the even fewer to survive it, though it was a close thing. She was in a comatose state for the greater part of a week. The jolt of electricity catalyzed the variety of chemicals that the case study had introduced into her system, triggering an effect that certainly was not what the drugs had been designed for. After she was released from the hospital, Grace made a 'shocking' discovery. She was illuminating rooms on her own, without the use of traditional means. Experimentation, and some trial and error, brought her to discoveries as to what she could, and couldn't do very well.
The lightning bolt, she decided, must have been fate. She must have been allowed to live for some greater purpose, and allowed to develop this strange gift. Or at least maybe it was a gift. That was really yet to be seen.
